# Phone Configuration

## Purpose

Register and maintain sender phone numbers in the Messaging Portal for administration and source assignment.

## WhatsApp integration

You can register phone numbers on this form, but **registration here alone does not integrate them into the WhatsApp ecosystem**. The number is stored in the portal only until it is connected through Meta.

To use a number for live WhatsApp messaging, complete **Embedded Sign-In** under **Technology** and connect the phone in Meta’s embedded signup flow (including phone verification). Only after that flow succeeds is the number integrated with WhatsApp and available for channel configuration and outbound communication. See [Adding a WhatsApp Phone Number (Embedded Sign-In Guide)](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/technology/whatsapp-add-phone-embedded-signin-guide.md) for the full flow (new number or migration).

If you registered a number here before onboarding, run [Embedded Sign-In](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/technology/embedded-sign-in.md) for that phone; you do not need to remove the Phone Configuration entry first.

## Steps

1. Open Phone Configuration.
2. Complete required number and provider fields.
3. Save and validate number status.

## Expected outcome

Approved sender numbers are available for source assignment—including standard WhatsApp sources and [WhatsApp Forward](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/administration/source-configuration/whatsapp-forward-source.md) sources. For WhatsApp, the number is also connected to Meta only after successful [Embedded Sign-In](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/technology/embedded-sign-in.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs-conversational-ai.syntphony.com/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/administration/phone-configuration.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
