# User Management

## Purpose

Create and maintain **Messaging Portal** user accounts, role assignments, and access scope.

## Who this is for

Administrators responsible for onboarding portal operators and supervisors.

## Prerequisites

* Administrator role in the Messaging Portal.
* Role profiles defined in [Role Management](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/administration/role-management.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
**Portal users are not Live Agent agents.** User Management controls access to the Messaging Portal (Communication, Planning, Administration, and related modules). Agent accounts for chat handling are created separately in the Live Agent Console.
{% endhint %}

## Steps

1. Open **Administration** and go to **User Management**.
2. Select **Add user** (or equivalent action) and enter the user email and display name.
3. Assign a role profile (Agent, Supervisor, or Administrator) aligned with operational responsibilities.
4. Send or confirm the invitation so the user can set a password on first access (see [Login](/syntphony-messaging-portal/getting-started/login.md)).
5. Review account status periodically and deactivate users who no longer require access.

> **Disclaimer:** You must be an **administrator of the SCAI account** to create new users in the Messaging Portal. If you do not have administrator access, please contact your organization's SCAI administrator.

## Key operations

* Add and deactivate users.
* Assign users to role profiles.
* Review account status and module access scope.

## Validation

* The user can sign in with the assigned organization and credentials created while creating the SCAI account or organization password.
* Visible modules match the assigned role (see [Role Management](/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/administration/role-management.md)).

## Expected outcome

Users can access the portal with permissions aligned to operational responsibilities.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs-conversational-ai.syntphony.com/syntphony-messaging-portal/messaging-tools/administration/user-management.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
